The Truth about the Atkins Grapefruit Diet

It is always interesting whenever you see the latest trends and diets and exactly where they are taking people.  A good example of this is the Atkins grapefruit diet, something that many people were trying to follow, but that may be a little bit difficult.  Here is a little bit of information about this particular diet, where it may have come from and how you may be able to use it in order to lose weight effectively.

First of all, the Atkins grapefruit diet is more of a fad than anything else and it is actually a melding of two different diets, the popular Atkins diet and the very old grapefruit diet.  Taking a look at each of these diets individually, it is difficult to see why or how these two would ever meet with each other and be able to work effectively.  Why is that?  Because each of these diets would actually cancel each other out and it may be possible that you would not be doing any good by going on the Atkins grapefruit diet.

If you are just now starting to research the Atkins diet, you have landed on the right page because I’m going to cut through a lot of the garbage that you are going to find on other websites and give you the truth about how you can actually use the principles behind this diet in order to lose weight.  What you need to understand, however, is that it is impossible for you to stick to a low carbohydrate diet if you’re going to be drinking grapefruit juice with every meal.  Grapefruit juice has carbohydrates, even though it does contain some fat cutting properties that may be appealing.  The same is also true with Atkins, it is not necessary for you to add any additional fat cutting properties to the Atkins diet as it does a very good job of this on its own.

In reality, this is a diet that is only a fad and is not going to be able to help you lose weight because it is not actually a diet at all.  The principle behind it, if you can really call it a principle is that you would stick to the Atkins diet which consists of eating all proteins and fats and avoiding any carbohydrates other than 20 g per day.  This puts your body into ketosis which will burn fat for fuel.  If you drink carbohydrates in the form of grapefruit juice, you will immediately take yourself out of ketosis and the Atkins diet will have ceased at that point.

If you’re interested in trying something like the Atkins grapefruit diet, I would recommend trying one or the other.  You can use the grapefruit diet because of its fat burning properties and it tends to give you a little bit more freedom as far as the foods that you can eat.  On the other hand, you could try the Atkins diet and burn fat as well, as it is very effective at doing this.  The one thing you can’t do, however, is both at the same time.

The absolute quickest way to lose weight is also one of the more dangerous ways to do so.  This approach must be done underneath the supervision of a doctor but it can help you to lose weight like no other.  It is a modified protein fast, which is a no carbohydrate, very low fat diet.  People that eat a modified protein fast will lose an extreme amount of weight but they also must be tested regularly in order to make sure that they are not developing any kind of dangerous blood abnormalities.  If you are able to get on this diet underneath your doctor’s care, however, it is the quickest way to lose weight.
